Planar Travel and Alternate Universes

By Luke Fon Fabre

Reading some of our biography entries, you may have questions about how we define alternate universes. Alternatively, you might be thinking it sounds kind of crazy. So, first off, some disclaimers: We have no illusions that this particular mode of travel is scientific in the slightest, nor do we have any evidence that it is anything other than a subjective experience. We acknowledge that the only evidence to our claims are our own memories and experiences, and we do not claim that anyone has to believe us. Still, we'd like to explain what we mean and our theories for how we came to be in this body.

Those of us that believe themselves to be travellers from outside that come to this body are known as Exotravelers, and more specifically those that come from alternate timelines, universes, or worlds are known as Exoplanarthean Exotravelers. Our best guess is that the Haven, our headspace, while also floating above the planet of Divisus physically, is also metaphorically floating in an interplanar void between universes. According to Y'shtola Rhul, souls can also wander the interplanar void, and while some of the people here came here via 'bridges' formed during times when the Haven brushed up against a universe, forming what we know as a Bridge, many of the souls are from aborted universes, or the souls were 'thrown out' of their own universe somehow.

Of course, we don't necessarily know that any of this isn't a mental construct or a metaphor to explain where we come from. Some of us, those known as Endotravelers, are of the opinion that they are psychologically formed even though they often have memories of other places. Additionally our relationship with Divisus, our inner world, is in a similar state of limbo. Again, according to Y'shtola, it too is an alternate universe we are permanently linked to.
